Garcia wins three events at Tufts meet
MEDFORD, Mass. --
Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) won three individual events for the Colby College menās indoor track team at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
Garcia helped the Mules finish in fourth place in the 13-team field with 82 points. Tufts won the meet with 142 points.
Garcia was a winner in the 400 meters (49.95), long jump (21-8) and the triple jump (44-11 1/2). He picked up 30 points for the three victories. Garcia won the 400 meters by nearly two seconds.
Rich Downing (Stow, Mass.) took second place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:58.41. Peyton McElyea (Pacific Grove, Calif.) took fifth place in the same race with a 4:03.76.
Josh Hinojosa (Rio Hondo, Texas) was fourth in the triple jump (41-3 3/4) and fifth in the long jump (20-4 1/2). Meanwhile, Ryan Hollett (Bedford, Nova Scotia) was third in the 55 dash (6.65) and fourth in the 200 meters (23.17).
The Colby men will compete at the State of Maine Meet this Friday at University of Southern Maine.
