Colby field hockey falls in NESCAC tourney
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --
A day after going to penalty strokes to beats Tufts University, the Colby College field hockey team had to go extra time again in a 2-1 overtime loss to Wesleyan University in a New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Sunday.
The fifth-seeded Mules ended their season at 10-5. Wesleyan (10-5), the fourth seed, will play at top-seeded Bowdoin College in a semifinal game this Saturday.
Wesleyan led 1-0 at halftime after Laura Pfeiffenberger scored 4:10 into the game.
Colby tied the game with 5:29 left in regulation when senior captain Lyndsay Peters (Freeport/Freeport, Maine) scored her second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.). Bonner finished the season with 12 goals and two assists for 26 points and now has 19 goals and five assists for 43 points in her two years at Colby.
Melissa Courtemanche scored her 10th goal of the season off a penalty corner 7:55 into overtime to help the Cardinals advance.
Colby senior goaltender Carrie Morin (Cony/Augusta, Maine) made 10 saves. She finished the season with 113 saves, six shutouts and allowed just 15 goals in 15 games.
