Colby women's basketball handles Pine Manor
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Colby College sophomore forward Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) scored a collegiate-high 25 points, had eight rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action as the Mules stayed unbeaten with an 86-55 non-conference victory over Pine Manor College at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Mules (4-0) used this game as a warm-up for Saturday's big non-league home game with Emmanuel at 3 p.m. Emmanuel is 4-0 and was ranked 13th in the preseason Division III coaches poll.
Senior center Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough/Catonsville, Md.) added 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals for Colby. First-year guard Sarah Kelly (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) had 11 points and four assists, junior guard Alicia Burrows New Hampton/Meredith, N.H.) had 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting, senior guard Bianca Belcher (Lewiston/Lewiston, Maine) scored eight points and had five assists, first-year guard Cassie Green (Biddeford/Biddeford, Maine) shot 4-for-5 and had eight points, and senior forward Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) had six points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Colby shot 57 percent from the field, with Bonner and Walsh combining for 18-for-24 shooting. Bonner and Walsh are both averaging 19.3 points per game. The Mules are averaging 86.5 points a game in their first four contests.
Pine Manor (1-4) shot a solid 44 percent from the field and got 13 points and six assists from sophomore guard Liz Sliney (Lincoln, R.I.). Ebony Phillips (Victorville, Calif.) had 14 points and Jen Rado (North Providence, R.I.) had 11 points and six assists.
