J. Lathrop third in giant slalom at Vermont

STOWE, Vt. --

Colby College first-year skier Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) finished in third place in the giant slalom at the University of Vermont Ski Carnival on Friday.

Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) was seventh and Colby teammate Nicole Wesson (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.) took 27th place.

Jenny Lathrop had a 56.75 on her first run and then went 1:03.42 on her second trip for a total time of 2:00.17. Abbi Lathrop was 56.50 and 1:05.52 for a 2:02.02.

Jenny Lathrop will attempt to go 4-for-4 in victories in slalom racing on Saturday in the second day of competition. She won two slalom races at St. Lawrence in her collegiate debut and then won the lone slalom race at New Hampshire last weekend.

For the Colby men in giant slalom, Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) finished in eighth place at 1:56.55. Noah Siebeck-Smith (Gould Academy/North Pomfret, Vt.) was 11th in 1:57.10 and first-year skier Charlie Reed (Winter Sports School/Park City, Utah) took 13th place in 1:57.22. Both Colby alpine teams were in third place after the giant slalom competition.

In Nordic skiing, Eric Fitz placed 33rd in 36:30 for the Colby men in the 10K classic. Hillary Easter was 38th for the Colby women in the 10K classic. Both Colby teams were in ninth place after the first day of competition.

In combined team results, Colby was sixth out of 12 teams.
