Women's alpine team gets second in slalom
STOWE, Vt. --
Colby College first-year skier Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) took third place overall in leading the women's alpine team to a second place finish in the slalom at the University of Vermont Carnival on Saturday.
Lathrop had a 45.04 on her first run and was second at that point. Her second run of 53.12 gave her a total time of 1:38.16. Dartmouth's Emily Copeland won the slalom with a 1:37.19.
Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.), Abbi's twin sister, had her streak of three straight wins in the slalom ended. She did finish in seventh place with a time of 1:38.91 after leading after the first run with a 44.95 clocking. Nicole Wesson (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.) took 24th place and Melina Markos (Carrabasset Vallet/Blue Hill, Maine) was 27th.
In men's slalom, Colby placed third out 11 teams with Rob Saunders (Rowland Hall-St. Marks/Park City, Utah) taking seventh place in 1:31.20. Charlie Reed (Winter Sports School/Park City, Utah) was ninth in 1:31.51, Noah Siebeck-Smith (Gould Academy/North Pomfret, Vt.) took 11th in 1:31.64 and Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) was 18th in 1:35.44.
In Nordic skiing, both Colby teams placed eighth in the three by five relay.
