J. Lathrop third in giant slalom

PROSPECT, Vt. --

Jenny Lathrop (Conway, N.H.) placed third in the giant slalom for the Colby College women's alpine team in the second day of competition at the Williams Carnival on Saturday.

There were two giant slalom races this weekend. In the first meet of the season at St. Lawrence, they raced two slalom runs.

Lathrop had a 1:01.92 and a 58.0 for a two-run total of 1:59.92. Vermont's Jamie Kingsbury won the giant slalom for the second day in a row with a 1:57.27.

Rob Saunders was fifth for the Colby men with a two-run total of 1:52.97. He had the second fastest second run with a time of 53.77. Vermont's Matt Knittle won with a 1:52.04. Warner Nickerson (Tilton, N.H.) placed 18th and Charlie Reed (Park City, Utah) was 22nd.

The Colby women placed sixth in the giant slalom, while the men were fourth. Vermont won both competitions.

Both Colby Nordic teams competed in 3x5 relays. The women placed ninth and the men took 10th.
