Lathrops, Godomsky, Saunders honored
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
Abbi Lathrop (North Conway, N.H.) took fifth place and Jenny Lathrop (North Conway, N.H.) was seventh in the women's giant slalom for the Colby College alpine team at the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships at the Middlebury Winter Carnival on Saturday.
The two first-year skiers were each named to the All-East EISA first team for their performances this season. Abbi Lathrop was second after the first run with a 1:03.81, but had a 1:06.07 to slip to fifth. Jenny Lathrop had a 1:04.09 and a 1:06.29 on her two runs. Jamie Kingsbury of University of Vermont won the giant slalom.
Colby alpine ski coach Mark Godomsky was named the EISA alpine Coach of the Year at the meet.
Caroline Riss (Madison, N.H.) placed 29th for the Colby women, who took third in the giant slalom with 96 points.
Rob Saunders (Park City, Utah) placed 13th for the Colby men in the giant slalom. He was named to the EISA second team for his efforts this season. Warner Nickerson (Tilton, N.H.) placed 16th for Colby and Charlie Reed (Park City, Utah) was 29th as the Mules placed sixth in the competition.
The Lathrop sisters, Saunders, Nickerson and Charlie Reed all qualified for the NCAA Championships on March 5-8 at Hanover, N.H. Colby's best previous attendance at the NCAA meet was two skiers.
In Nordic skiing, Anna Carvill (Milford, N.H.) took 32nd and Marisa Sowles (Cumberland, Maine) was 34th in the women's 15K classic. For the Colby men, Kris Dobie (Walpole, N.H.) took 38th place in the 20K classic.
