Lathrops ninth and 12th in giant slalom

HANOVER, N.H. --

Colby College first-year skier Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) finished in ninth place and Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) took 12th in the giant slalom during competition Friday at the Dartmouth College Carnival.

Jenny Lathrop finished with a two-run total of 2 minutes, 4.18 seconds, while Abbi Lathrop had a 2:05.31. University of Vermont's Jamie Kingsbury won the event in 1:58.81. The Colby women finished in sixth place out of 11 teams in the giant slalom.

Senior Caroline Riss (Gould Academy/Madison, N.H.) placed 29th for the Mules in 2:10.32, Katie Lucas (Burke Mountain Academy/Mequon, Mich.) was 34th with a time of 2:12.44 and teammate Nicole Wessen (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.) was right behind Lucas in 35th in 2:12.44.

In men's giant slalom, Colby also finished in sixth place as Rob Saunders (Rowland Hall-St. Marks/Park City, Utah) was 19th in 1:58.55 in his two runs. Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) took 21st in 1:59.09, Noah Siebeck-Smith (Gould Academy/North Pomfret, Vt.) was 25th with a 1:59.62 and Thomas Richardson (Team Gilboa/Edina, Minn.) placed 27th in 1:59.78.

The women's Nordic team had an eighth place finish in the 5K free technique. Anna Carvill (Milford, N.H.) was 27th in 16:33.4, Hillary Easter (Jay, Maine) took 32nd in 16:41.8 and Alex Jospe (New York, N.Y.) was 35th in 17:03.

Colin Witherill (Cumberland, Maine) placed 38th in 29:19 in the 10K free technique for the Colby Nordic men's team. Kris Dobie (Walpole, N.H.) took 40th in 29:41 and Eric Fitz (Cumberland, Maine) was 42nd in 29:49.9. The Colby men placed 10th out of 12 teams.
