Lathrops finish 1-2 in slalom at Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. --
Colby College's Lathrop sisters had the biggest performances ever by two skiers in a meet for the Mules on Saturday.
Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) won her fourth slalom race of the season and twin sister Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) took second for Colby at the Dartmouth College Ski Carnival.
Jenny Lathrop had a two-run total of 1 minute, 38.17 seconds in holding off her sister's time of 1:38.84. Jenny Lathrop had a 48.29 on her first run and trailed Dartmouth's Sacha Acher (48.19). Lathrop then had a 49.88 on her second run to go past Sacha, who had a 50.80.
Abbi Lathrop had runs of 48.39 and 50.45 for her 1:38.84 total. Colby's Nicole Wessen (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.) was 19th for the Mules in 1:42.91.
The Colby women's slalom team nearly pulled out their first victory of the season. University of Vermont finished first with 102 points and the Mules had 99 for second.
The Colby men's slalom team took fourth place thanks to solid finishes from Charlie Reed (Winter Sports School/Park City, Utah) and Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.). Reed placed 10th with a 1:37.13 (46.82, 50.31) and Nickerson came in 12th at 1:37.53 (47.47, 50.06).
Both Colby Nordic teams placed ninth. In the 15K classic for the women, Anna Carvill (Milford, N.H.) took 32nd place in 58:27.9 and Hillary Easter (Jay, Maine) was 39th. Eric Fitz (Cumberland, Maine) took 31st place for the Colby men in the 20K classic in 1:09:08.0 and Colin Witherill (Cumberland, Maine) was 40th.
