Men's hockey defeats Skidmore
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. --
The Colby College men's hockey team scored a goal in each period in taking a 3-1 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday.
The Mules had a 36-10 advantage in shots, but Skidmore (1-4) goalie Matt Meacham kept his team in the game with 33 saves.
Jean Francois Auffrey scored shorthanded with 1:42 to play in the first period off assists from Nick Bayley and Eric Molander for a 1-0 Colby (5-1) lead at the first intermission.
Sean O'Grady made it 2-0 in the second period when scored off a power play midway through the period. Bayley and Nick Meintel picked up assists on the goal.
Skidmore's Jared Simon cut the lead to 2-1 at the 11:12 mark of the third period, but Colby got an insurance goal with 10 seconds left from Brian Chishom off assists from Ross MacMillan and Brock Barton.
Chris Ries made nine saves in the nets for Colby.
