FORT MYERS, Fla. --
Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) went 5-for-6 in two games for the Colby College softball team during the first two games of the season on the spring Florida trip Monday.
Colby (1-1), which had its game Sunday with DePauw University canceled because of rain, took a 7-1 victory over MIT and lost a tough 4-3 game to Hamline.
In the win over MIT, first-year pitcher Lauren Olmsted (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and just one walk. Sophomore Michaelyn Bortolotti (Hanover/Hanover, Mass.) went 3-for-3 for the Mules. Bonner went 3-for-4 and sophomore Annette Caswell (Bucksport/Bucksport, Maine) had two hits.
Colby led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning in the loss to Hamline. However, the Mules had a costly error in the inning as Hamline rallied for the win.
Bonner went 2-for-2 and had a walk and Olmsted had a key hit in Colby's two-run sixth inning.
The Mules had just one error in the two games and had 18 hits.
Colby plays Union College at 9 a.m. Tuesday and then takes on Bethel College at 11 a.m.
