Runners left on base hurts Colby softball
FORT MYERS, Fla. --
The Colby College softball team left 21 runners on base in two games in suffering a 2-1 loss to Union College and a 4-0 setback to Bethel College during games Tuesday in Florida.
Colby has out-hit its opponent in all four games this season in a 1-3 start. The Mules left 11 on base against Union and 10 versus Bethel.
Michaelyn Bortolotti (Hanover/Hanover, Mass.) had two hits and Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) had an RBI double for Colby in the Union (3-2) game. Annette Caswell (Bucksport/Bucksport, Maine) and Lauren Olmsted (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) combined on the mound to give up just four hits for the Mules.
Bortolotti, Meaghan Shea (Doherty Memorial/Worcester, Mass.) and Kate Hurd (Greely/Cumberland, Maine) all had two hits for Colby in the game against Bethel.
Colby will continue its Florida trip on Wednesday against North Central at 9 a.m. There is one change to the schedule for this Friday. The Mules will not play Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m., but will instead go up against local rival Thomas College. Whitewater had travel arrangements for Friday morning and could not play the game.
