Colby softball drops two to Middlebury
FORT MYERS, Fla. --
The Colby College softball team got solid pitching from sophomore Annette Caswell (Bucksport/Bucksport, Maine) in a tough 1-0 loss to Middlebury College in the first game of a doubleheader in Florida on Thursday.
The Mules (1-6) also lost 7-5 in the nightcap.
Caswell allowed just four hits, but gave up a home run to Christina Freyer in the top of the seventh inning.
Michaelyn Bortolotti (Hanover/Hanover, Mass.) went 2-for-2 for the Mules, who had a 5-4 advantage in hits. Colby has out-hit its opponent in six of seven games this year.
In the second game, Caswell went 3-for-3 for the Mules as Colby allowed six runs in the first inning. Lauren Olmsted (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) added two hits and senior captain Carrie Morin (Cony/Augusta, Maine) had a two-run single.
Colby finishes up its Florida trip Friday with a game against local rival Thomas College at 9 a.m. and then the finale versus Lawrence University at 11 a.m.
