Colby tennis teams defeat College of New Jersey

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Sara Hughes (S. Burlington, Vt.) moved within one win of 30 on the season in lifting the Colby College women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over College of New Jersey on Tuesday.

The Colby men won all three of the singles matches that went three sets in pulling out a 4-3 win over the College of New Jersey men.

Hughes moved to 29-11 this season in singles and doubles with her victories. Caren Harris (Fairview Village, Pa.), Paige Hanzlik (Oak Brook, Ill.), Ginny Raho (Providence, R.I.) and Jenny Grace (Darien, Conn.) also won singles matches for the Colby women (8-7). Palmedo won for the 20th time this season in joining forces with Hughes for a win at first doubles.

Tim Stenovec (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), Ben Crane (Edina, Minn.) and John Fallon (Northboro, Mass.) all won singles matches in three sets for the Colby men (6-6). Fallon need a tiebreaker in the third set to pull out his win at fifth singles. Stenovec lost the first set before winning 7-5, 6-3 in the next two sets at third singles, while Crane won 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at the fourth spot. Stenovec and Crane also improved to 5-0 in doubles play with a victory at number two.
