Colby women's indoor track beats Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine --

The Colby College womenâs indoor track team won a meet for the second straight week as Connie Beal (Cumberland, Maine) and Karima Ummah (Litchfield, Maine) each won two events in a 92.5-74.5 dual meet victory over Bowdoin College on Saturday.

The Colby men finished in second place in a tri-meet with Bowdoin and Southern Maine.

Beal was a winner in the shot put (43-1 1/2 ) and the weight throw (49-3), while Ummah took the 55 hurdles (9.33) and the triple jump (37-6). Bealâs throws would put her third in the shot put in NCAA Division III and sixth in the weight throw based on this past Mondayâs best national times and distances. Ummah would be third in the triple jump in the nation.

Other winners for the Colby women included: Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.) in the 800 meters (2:22.25), Emily Coulson (Fish Creek, Wisc.) in the high jump (5-2), Elizabeth Frederick (North Attleboro, Mass.) in the pole vault (10-0) and Shannon Corliss (Castleton, Vt.) in the long jump (16-3 1/2).

Bowdoin won the men's meet with 89 points, the Mules had 69 and Southern Maine was third with 12. Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.), the ECAC Field Athlete of the Week in Division III last week, won the long jump (22-7) and the 55 dash (6.63) for Colby. Lee Rankin (Riverside, R.I.) had a throw of 54-7 ¸ in the weight throw to win by more than nine feet.

Peyton McElyea (Pacific Grove, Calif.) took the 1,500 meters in 4:05.90, Rich Downing (Stow, Mass.) captured the 1,000 meters (2:32.40), Reed Sibley (Plymouth, Mass.) was a winner in the 55 hurdles (8.37), Ryan Hollett (Bedford, Nova Scotia) won the 200 meters (23.31) and Josh Hinojosa (Rio Hondon, Texas) took the triple jump (41-2 ¸).

Both Colby teams head to Quebec City for a meet next Saturday.
