Beal wins two events for Colby in Quebec
QUEBEC CITY --
Connie Beal (Cumberland, Maine) won the shot put event and the hammer throw for the Colby College women's indoor track and field team at the Laval Invitational in Quebec on Saturday.
Beal won the shot with a throw of 42-feet, 6-inches and took the hammer thow in 49-0 3/4.
Emily Coulson (Fish Creek, Wisc.) won the high jump at 5-3 and Karina Johnson (Tolland, Conn.) was a winner in the 1,500 meters (5:09.70).
For the Colby men, senior Lee Rankin (Riverside, R.I.) took the hammer throw in 53-3 ². Jason Foster (Waterbury, Vt.), a first-year thrower, won his first collegiate event by taking the shot put at 41-8 1/2.
In running events, Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) captured the 300 dash (36.04), Reed Sibley (Plymouth, Mass.) won the 60 hurdles in 9.18 and Rich Downing (Stow, Mass.) finished first in the 1,500 meters (4:01.40).
The men's indoor track team competes at the Tufts Invitational this Saturday. The Colby women head to Bates for the Maine State Meet on Friday.
