Ummah third in triple jump for Colby
GREENCASTLE, Ind. --
Colby College junior Karima Ummah (Litchfield, Maine) earned All-America honors for taking third place in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 39-10 1/2. Ummah crushed her best previous jump (38-11 1/2) by nearly one foot. Christopher Newport's LaNeatra Johnson won the competition with a leap of 40-7.
Connie Beal (Cumberland, Maine) took fifth place in the shot put to earn All-America honors as well. She had a throw of 46-2 3/4. Beal did not make the final in the 20-pound weight throw after a toss of 49-51/2.
Elizabeth Frederick (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed ninth in the pole vault with a jump of 10-11.
For the Colby men, sophomore Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) finished in eighth place in the 400-meter dash in 49.85. Garcia got to the final with a 49.74 in a preliminary race.
