Colby track teams compete in California meet
CLAREMONT, Calif. --
Sophomore Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) won the long jump for the Colby College men's outdoor track and field team at the Claremont Challenge.
Garcia had a leap of 22 feet, 9 inches in winning the long jump by six inches. He also took second in the 100-meter dash (11.00) and was third in the 200 meters (22.57).
Jason Foster (Moretown, Vt.) was third in the discus (133-0) and David Civitello (Hamden, Conn.) placed third in the hammer throw (129-0).
For the Colby women, Elizabeth Frederick (North Attleboro, Mass.) was first in the pole vault (10-6) and took third in the 200 meters (27.23).
Ellen Whitesides (Winnetka, Ill.) captured the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.38. Meanwhile, Shannon Corliss (Castleton, Vt.) took third in the 100 hurdles (16.39) and the long jump (16-6).
Colby received seconds from Amanda Walsh (Salem, Mass.) in the 1,500 meters (5:05.90) and from Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.) in the 800 meters (2:20.80). Meredith Millen (Freedom, N.H.) was third in the 800 (2:23.26) and Kara McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) placed third in the 400 meters (1:04.82).
