Beal, Ummah win two events for Mules
MEDFORD, Mass. --
Colby College senior Connie Beal (Cumberland, Maine) won the shot put and the weight throw and teammate Karima Ummah (Litchfield, Maine) took the triple jump and the high jump at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Colby's Elizabeth Frederick (North Attleboro, Mass.) captured the pole vault as the Mules finished in second place out of 51 teams at the meet with 66 points. Wheaton College won with 73 points.
Beal had a toss of 44-11.75 in the shot put and had a throw of 51-9.25 in the weight throw.
Ummah earned her 20 points for the two first place finishes with a 37-10.50 in the triple jump and a 5-7.25 in the high jump.
Frederick dominated the pole vault competition with a leap of 11-5.75.
Shannon Corliss (Castleton, Vt.) took fourth place in the pentathlon with 2,801 points. Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.) was eighth in the 800 meters (2:19.23), while Karina Johnson (Tolland, Conn.) was ninth in the 5,000 meters at 18:17.33 and Emilie Coulson (Fish Creek, Wisc.) was ninth in the high jump (5-1.25).
Colby's 3,200-relay team finished in third place in 9:31.34.
For the Colby men, Lee Rankin (Riverside, R.I.) placed sixth in the weight throw at 53-7.
