Wet day on Saturday at NCAA track meet

CANTON, N.Y. --

Colby College sophomore Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) and junior Karima Ummah (Litchfield, Maine) each had problems in the rain Saturday at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence University.

With a steady rain most of day in Canton, Ummah finished in 18th place in the women's high jump at 5-1 3/4. She has consistently cleared 5-5 to 5-7 throughout the indoor and outdoor track seasons. Geneseo's Kim Deprez won the competition with only a leap of 5-5 3/4.

Garcia finished in 16th place in the triple jump at 43-11 1/4. He has jumped more than 47 feet in the past. Lincoln University's Justin Jarmon won the competition with a 48-10 1/4 leap.
