Colby volleyball beats Amherst, falls to Tufts
WATERVILLE, Maine --
The Colby College volleyball team will have to settle for the second seed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships.
The Mules, with a chance to get the top seed and host the November 8-9 tournament, beat Amherst and lost to Tufts in NESCAC Weekend matches Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Colby needed to win both matches to host the tourney.
Williams College, which went 3-0 in NESCAC play this weekend, will host the tourney as the top seed. Colby is seeded second and will play No. 7 Middlebury in a quarterfinal match. The Mules have their highest seeding ever for the tourney.
Cait Cleaver (Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) had 22 kils and Abbey Stella (Westfield/Westfield, Mass.) finished with 17 kills and five blocks in a 30-28, 30-21, 21-30, 30-27 win against Amherst. Alyssa Henley (St. George's/Spokane, Wash.) had 12 kills and Kimberly Prescott (Los Alamitos/Buena Park, Calif.) had 54 assists for Colby (18-7, 8-2 NESCAC).
Cleaver had 13 kills and Johanna Schroeder (Salmon/Salmon, Idaho) had nine kills in the loss to Tufts.
