Colby women use big second half to beat Monks
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Drea DeAngelo (Sycamore/Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half to help the Colby College women's basketball team pull away for a 55-34 non-conference victory over St. Joseph's College on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Colby (12-4) led just 16-13 at halftime as both teams struggled from the field. The Mules shot just 18 percent from the field, but actually held the lead at the break. St. Joseph's (11-5) shot only 21 percent in the opening half and also had 14 turnovers.
Bianca Belcher (Lewiston/Lewiston, Maine) added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for Colby. Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) had 11 points and nine rebounds, Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough/Catonsville, Md.) had seven points and 12 rebounds, Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) added seven points and nine boards, and Sarah Kelly (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) had five steals and four boards.
Abbie Rice (South Portland/South Portland, Maine) had 12 points to lead the Monks. Laura Pelkey (Nokomis/Palmyra, Maine) had eight points and eight rebounds.
Colby will play host to Middlebury College this Friday at 7 p.m.
