Bowdoin women hold off Colby, 60-50
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Lora Trenkle (Surry, Maine) had 15 points and six assists to help the Bowdoin College women's basketball team finish unbeaten in New England Small College Athletic Conference play with a 60-50 victory over Colby College on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Bowdoin, which had already clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, improved to 21-2 overall and 9-0 in the conference. Colby fell to 17-6 overall and dropped to 6-3 in the league. The Mules will be the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will play host to fifth seed Williams College next Saturday at 3 p.m.
Kristi Royer (Lewiston, Maine) had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Polar Bears, who had a 49-35 advantage in rebounding. Courtney Trotta (Sharon, Mass.) had 12 points, while Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Sarah Walsh (Catonsville, Md.) had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Mules. Walsh needs just 12 rebounds now to become the first Colby women's basketball player to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Walsh is at 1,375 points and 988 rebounds.
Bowdoin led 31-21 at halftime despite having 12 turnovers in the first half. The Polar Bears had 26 turnovers in the game, but used their rebounding advantage to stay in control.
Colby finishes the regular season on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Newbury College.
