Women's basketball romps past Tufts
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Colby College senior center Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough/Catonsville, Md.) finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals in lifting the Mules to a 73-50 New England Small College Athletic Conference win over Tufts University at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday.
Walsh, who became the all-time leading rebounder for Colby women['s basketball in Friday's game against Bates, is looking to become the first woman to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. She is up to 1,332 career points and has 967 rebounds.
Bianca Belcher (Lewiston/Lewiston, Maine) had 14 points and six assists for the Mules (16-5, 6-2 NESCAC). Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) added 12 points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. Sarah Kelly (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) had four points, four rebounds and five assists for Colby.
The Mules shot 54 percent in the first half in taking a 43-26 lead at the break.
Tufts (15-5, 3-4) got 10 points apiece from Allison Love (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) and Jessica Powers (Massapequa/Massapequa. N.Y.).
Colby will play host to Maine-Maritime in a non-league game this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
