Colby women's basketball handles Bates
LEWISTON, Maine --
Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough/Catonsville, Md.) and Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) each recorded double-double games in scoring and rebounding as Colby College took a 62-49 over rival Bates College in women's basketball Thursday night.
Walsh had 19 points, 14 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for Colby (7-2), while Bonner finished with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and added 10 rebounds.
The Mules held Bates (6-2) to 31 percent shooting from the field and their lowest scoring total since falling to Amherst (58-46) on January 26, 2001. The Bobcats were 0-for-16 from 3-point range and leading scorer Carla Flaherty had just 14 points (she averages more than 20) and turned the ball over seven times.
Colby point guard Bianca Belcher (Lewiston/Lewiston, Maine) came to her hometown and had 12 points, five steals and three assists. Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) had seven points and four steals.
The Mules play at Thomas College this Sunday at 4 p.m.
