Colby women's basketball crushes Gordon
WATERVILLE, Maine --
A day after being named an All-American in field hockey, sophomore Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) had a big day on the basketball court with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Colby College women's basketball team to a 74-33 non-conference win over Gordon College on Tuesday night.
Bonner shot 12-for-18 from the field and had eight offensive rebounds as Colby improved to 3-0 on the season.
First-year guard/forward Sarah Kelly (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) had 13 points, six rebounds and seven steals for the Mules. Senior center Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough/Catonsville, Md.), the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week for last week, added 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Junior guard Alicia Burrows (New Hampton/Meredith, N.H.) had seven points, junior forward Caitlin Bourque (North Middlesex/Townsend, Mass.) had nine rebounds and senior guard Bianca Belcher (Lewiston/Lewiston, Maine) had five rebounds and five assists.
Colby only led 25-21 at halftime, but put up 49 points in the second half. The Mules had a 56-34 advantage in rebounding.
Gordon (1-2) got 14 points from junior guard Kara Pellegrino (Springfield Christian/Westfield, Mass.).
Colby will play host to Pine Manor in a non-league game Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. That game was originally scheduled for Sunday, December 8.
