Strong finish for women's cross country team
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --
Colby College sophomore Karina Johnson (Tolland/Tolland, Conn.) finished in 13th place out of 269 finishers in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational women's cross country meet Saturday.
Johnson helped the Mules take sixth place out of 37 teams. Colby had a 197 score and was just one point out of fifth place. Trinity College won the meet with a score of 88.
Johnson had a time of 18 minutes, 32.51 seconds over the five-kilometer course. First-year runner Jess Minty (Concord-Carlisle/St. Concord, Mass.) took 35th place in 19:18.95 and senior captain Megan Hoar (Dennis Yarmouth/Yarmouthport, Mass.) was right behind Minty in 38th place in 19:22.22.
Colby also got a solid run from junior Anna Cristina Sisson (Oak Brook, Ill.), who took 44th place in 19:29.48. First-year runner Hillary Easter (Jay/Jay, Maine) took 67th place in 19:50.83. Senior captain Ellen Whitesides (New Trier/Winnetka, Ill.) took 79th (20:03.68) and junior Elizabeth Turnbull (Governor Dummer/Wenham, Mass.) finished 80th (20:05.33).
Colby will run on Saturday at the Bates College Invitational.
