Wesleyan field hockey stops Colby
WATERVILLE, MAINE --
In a battle between two teams with identical records, the Wesleyan University field hockey team got one goal in each half for a 2-0 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Crafts Field.
Senior forward Melissa Courtemanche (Smith Academy/Hatfield, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner 10 minutes, 22 seconds into the first half off assists from Sonya Behnke (BB&N/Marblehead, Mass.) and Jenna Flateman (Northfield Mt. Hermon/Barre, Vt.) to give the Cardinals (6-1, 3-1 NESCAC) the lead.
Wesleyan senior attacker Laura Pfeiffenberger (Bonny Eagle/Hollis, Maine) scored unassisted with about 21 minutes left in the game for the other goal.
Wesleyan goaltender Lindsay Wasserman (Branford/Branford, Conn.) had seven saves for the shutout. Colby goalie Carrie Morin (Cony/Augusta, Maine) made 12 saves.
The Mules (5-2, 2-2) will play again Sunday at home against Williams College at 11 a.m.
