Middlebury women's lacrosse stops Colby in opener
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
The Middlebury College women's lacrosse team won for the 36th straight time in taking a 17-7 season-opening victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
Kate Simpson had three goals and four assists for top-ranked Middlebury, the two time defending NCAA champions. Char Glessner added five goals and one assist for the winners.
Cara Dionisi (St. Mark's School/Sudbury, Mass.) led 16th-ranked Colby (0-1) with two goals and one assist. Kate Wheeler (Garrison Forest/Baltimore, Md.) also had two goals, while Ally King (Hall/Hartford, Conn.) had one goal and two assists. Sarah Burlingham (Radnor/Radnor, Pa.) and Katie Trainor (Berwick Academy/Rye, N.H.) both had one goal.
Anna Schierberl Scherr stopped 16 shots in the nets for Colby.
The Mules are scheduled to play at University of New England at 3 p.m. Wednesday. However, that game could be moved to a neutral site or be played on a different day.
