USM defeats Colby women's soccer in overtime
GORHAM, MAINE --
Amanda Valeriani scored with five seconds left in the first overtime period as University of Southern Maine scored late in regulation and overtime for a 2-1 victory over Colby College in non-conference women's soccer Thursday.
Valeriani sent the game to overtime when she scored with only 37 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 1-1.
Colby (2-4) went ahead 1-0 when senior forward Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) got her 35th collegiate goal with 30 minutes left in regulation. O'Donnell also has nine assists and 79 career points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Riley (Saco, Maine) had nine saves for the Mules. Southern Maine (2-6) got five stops, including a penalty kick save, by Marcy Ansley.
Colby will host Wesleyan University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
