Colby women's tennis beats Bates, 7-2
LEWISTON, MAINE --
Sophomore Sara Hughes (Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) took an easy victory at first singles to power the Colby College women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Bates College on Wednesday.
Hughes had a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tara DeVito and then combined with Britt Palmedo (Deerfield/Ketchum, Idaho) for a win at first doubles.
Senior Caren Harris (Germantown/Fairview Village, Pa.) had a tight 6-2, 6-7, (10-7 tiebreaker for third set) win over Kelsey Evans at second singles. Sophomore Nikki Patel (Westminster/Avon, Conn.) won a tiebreaker third set for a Colby victory at sixth singles.
Fourth singles player Christina Pluta (Mercer/Mercer Island, Wash.) and first-year player Ginny Raho (Lincoln School/Providence, R.I.) at fifth singles won their matches in straight sets. Pluta also teamed with Harris for a victory at second doubles.
Colby will entertain Amherst on Saturday at 3 p.m.
