MEDFORD, Mass. --

The Tufts University bats put up crooked numbers in each of the first four innings, and junior pitcher Jeremy Davis (Little Falls, NY) went seven strong, as the Jumbos earned a NESCAC East Division series sweep over the Colby College Mules with a 16-6 victory on Sunday.
Tufts, which beat Colby 11-1 and 9-4 on Saturday, improved to 15-11 overall and 5-4 in the NESCAC East.
The Jumbos took advantage of Colby starter Jordan Henrys (Kensington, MD) wildness to score early and often. He allowed eight runs on seven walks and eight hits in 2.1 innings of work. Tufts freshman DH Kyle Backstrom (Worcester, MA) had two RBIs in the first three innings without a hit. Senior 3B Adam Kacamburas (North Reading, MA) stroked a two-run single in the third, when the Jumbos broke it open by scoring five runs to lead 10-0.
Davis had a no-hitter into the fifth inning when Colby freshman 3B Andy Carr (Conway, NH) ripped a solid single. He finished seven innings, allowing five hits and no runs. The Jumbos added three runs in the fourth and three more in the eighth to lead 16-0.
Colby broke up the shut out and a whole lot more in the ninth against Tufts reliever Erik Johanson (Wynnewood, PA), scoring six times. They hit two home runs in the inning, a solo shot by freshman SS Tom Salemy (Odessa, FL) to lead off the inning and a three-run shot by freshman LF Brian Liberty (Hollis, NH).
Kacamburas drove home four runs and was one of five Jumbos with two hits apiece. Junior catcher Bob Kenny (Milford, MA) was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. The Jumbos had 15 hits overall. Tufts now faces a must-sweep three-game series at Bates College next weekend in order to clinch a spot in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament.
Liberty was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Carr was 3 for 4 for the Mules.
