The Bowdoin College baseball team completed a weekend sweep of rival Colby on Sunday, taking a 3-2 victory to improve to 14-4 on the year. The Polar Bears are 5-1 in NESCAC play, while the Mules drop to 3-13 and 0-3 in conference.
For the third straight game, Colby held a lead and let it slip away in the late innings. Colby hurler Jordan Henry allowed only one Bowdoin hit in the first five innings, and scattered eight walks on the day. The Mules got on the board right away in the first as Vincent Domestico came around to score on a base hit by Eric Roy. Bowdoin equaled things in the sixth frame when Manny Lora took advantage of a bases-loaded walk to plate Tom McMahon and deadlock the contest at one apiece.
Colby managed to regain the lead in the bottom of the frame, however, when Domestico scored on a wild pitch by Bowdoin starter Ricky Leclerc to make it 2-1 Mules. Leclerc avoided further damage that inning, and was outstanding on the day, tossing eight innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters.
Leclerc's teammates picked him up in the seventh with a two-run, two-out rally. Kevin Bougie stole second base and advance to third on a wild pitch by Colby's Bob Brady. John Clifford singled home Bougie and Tom McMahon advanced Clifford to second base with another single. Kevin Goodhue sliced a ball to right field, driving home Clifford with the eventual game-winner.
