UMF takes win over Colby in baseball
WATERVILLE, Maine -
Zachary Reed (Lincoln, Maine) ripped a grand slam homer and pitched a complete game to lead University of Maine at Farmington to a 9-2 victory over Colby College in non-conference baseball Wednesday.
Reed's big blow came in a six-run eighth inning that turned a 3-2 UMF (2-7) lead into a 9-2 margin. Reed gave up nine hits and two earned runs in the win and finished with two hits, two runs and four RBI.
Kris Garrow (Enosburg Falls, Vt.), Peter McLaughlin (Benton, Maine), John Rutkiewicz (Cranston, R.I.) and Eric Cummings (Augusta, Maine) all had two hits for the winners.
Tom Salemy (Odessa, Fla.) and Andy Carr (Conway, N.H.) both had two hits for Colby. Tyler Hales (Lexington, Mass.) added an RBI double for the Mules.
