Colby's Bonner named field hockey All-American
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Colby College junior Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) is a field hockey All-American for the second straight year.
Bonner was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-American Third Team selection Monday. She also made the third team last year.
Bonner becomes the first Colby field hockey player to earn All-American honors twice. Katie Taylor '98 was the first Colby player to earn All-American honors in 1996 as a defender.
Heading into her senior season, Bonner has a chance to rewrite Colby's scoring records. She has 34 goals and eight assists for 76 career points. Bonner needs just two more goals to break the goal scoring record set by Letty Roberts, who had 35 goals in 1982. Roberts also has the all-time scoring record for the Mules with 100 points.
Bonner broke her own single-season goal scoring record when she had 15 goals and three assists for 33 points this past season. She finished the regular season ranked in a tie for third in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in points per game (2.20) and was tied for second in goals per game (1.00).
Bonner had six game-winning goals in 2003 and helped the Mules to a 9-6 record. She had 15 of Colby's 29 goals.
Besides her All-American honor, Bonner has already been named to the NFHCA New England West Region First Team and the NESCAC First Team.
Bonner is a three-sport athlete at Colby in field hockey, basketball and softball. She helped the basketball team to a 2-0 start to the season by averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Mules won the Colby Tip-Off Tourney this past weekend.
