Caswell earns academic District I honor
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Colby College's Annette Caswell (Bucksport/Orland, Maine) was named to the 2004 Academic District I College Division Softball second team on Wednesday.
The squad is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District I is made up of Division III colleges in New York and New England.
Caswell, a junior psychology major at Colby with a minor in chemistry, was one of three New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) players to make the first and second team.
Caswell, who struggled with injury problems this year, hit .183 and had a 1-0 pitching record in Colby's 18-11-1 season in 2004. She was a NESCAC All-Conference first team selection and an ECAC second team pick in 2003 after leading the team in batting at .443 when the Mules hosted the NESCAC Tournament.
Caswell is considered one of the top fielders on the team from her center field position. She made just one error this season and only has three errors in the past two seasons.
Caswell, a research assistant in the Colby Psychology Department, earned Colby's Charles Dana Scholarship for academic excellence and leadership potential after her first year. She also was awarded a Barking Foundation Scholarship for academics and future contributions to the community.
