Brown 5th place to lead Colby men to strong finish
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
Nat Brown (Wellesley, Mass.) placed a strong fifth for the Colby College men's cross country team as the Mules took fourth place at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Middlebury College.
Brown, the Maine State champion, will earn NESCAC first-team honors when the team is officially announced for finishing in the top seven. The Colby senior had a time of 26 minutes, 48.3 seconds over the 8-kilometer course. Williams' Neal Holtschulte won the race in 26:18.4.
Colby senior Eric Reinauer (North Granby, Conn.) will get second-team NESCAC honors for placing 13th with a 27:09.3 clocking. Jeff Alden (Caribou, Maine) took 20th place in 27:23.5 in his first NESCAC Championships race.
The Colby men had a team score of 130 to place fourth. Tufts won the 11-team competition.
The Colby women had a score of 226 to take ninth place overall. Middlebury captured the team title.
Junior Karina Johnson (Tolland, Conn.) was the top Colby finisher in 18th place in 19:19 over five kilometers. Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.) was 42nd in 19:59.3 and Mary Phelps (Piedmont, Calif.) took 51st place in 20:21.2.
Amherst's Shauneen Garrahan won the women's race in 18:13.6.
