Tufts football shuts out Colby, 18-0

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Junior quarterback Jason Casey (Hampton Falls, N.H.) threw for two touchdowns and rushed for 67 yards in leading the Tufts University football team to an 18-0 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Seaverns Field.

Tufts improved to 5-2 with the victory, while Colby drops to 4-3.

Senior running back Tim Mack (St. Louis, Mo.) rushed 23 times for 91 yards for the Jumbos. Casey completed 11-of-20 passes for 111 yards and helped his own cause by rushing for a 6.7-yard per rush average on his 10 carries.

Mark Tilki (Derby, Conn.) had two interceptions on defense and had a 57-yard punt return that set up one score for Tufts. Donovan Brown (Randolph, Mass.) also had two interceptions for the winners. Caleb Hudak (White River Junction, Vt.) led the Jumbos with nine tackles.

After a scoreless first quarter, Tufts put up 15 points in the second quarter to take control. Tilki set up Tufts' first touchdown when he raced 57 yards on a punt return to the Colby 2-yard line. Three plays later, Casey hit wide receiver Matt Cerne (Atkinson, N.H.) on an 8-yard scoring play for a 6-0 lead.

Tilki set up the Jumbos' second touchdown as well when he intercepted a pass by Justin Smith (Rockland, Mass.) and returned it 40 yards to the Colby 30-yard line. The Jumbos needed nine plays from the 30, but still got in for the touchdown when Casey connected with Mack on a 10-yard scoring pass.

Marcellus Rolle (Smyrna, Ga.) booted a 37-yard field goal at the halftime buzzer for a 15-0 lead. He added a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter for the final points.

Kevin Holland (Williamstown, Mass.) caught six balls for 64 yards for Tufts.

Smith threw for 104 yards for Colby. Tom Wilson (Bellevue, Wash.) had four catches for 65 yards.
