Colby assistant football coach to attend NCAA coaching program

WATERVILLE, Maine -

Colby College assistant football coach Bill Lund is one of 10 coaches selected to participate in the 2004 NCAA Expert Coaching Program on June 1-3 in Indianapolis.

The program will be held at the NCAA national headquarters. Workshop topics will include: new and innovative approaches to coaching, developing and strengthening relationships with student-athletes, cutting-edge game strategies, game day coaching skills, and off-the-field concerns.

The NCAA Expert Coaching Program is a collaborative effort between the NCAA, Black Coaches Association (BCA), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), and the National Football League (NFL). The program is designed to address the shortage of ethnic minority head football coaches at NCAA member institutions.

Lund, who is Latino, completed his fourth year this past fall as linebacker coach and special teams coordinator for the Colby football team. Prior to arriving at Colby, Lund spent three years as linebacker coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Saint Anselm College. Lund also is an assistant track and field coach at Colby.

Lund, a Wisconsin native, graduated from Lawrence University. He was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at Lawrence, playing both sides of the ball at linebacker and center. He received the Most Dedicated Senior Athlete award at Lawrence and earned all-conference honors at center while helping the team lead Division III in rushing in 1995.

Lund played semi-pro football with the Granite State Warriors of the Eastern Football League from 1996 to 1998. He played linebacker and served as defensive coordinator for the team during their national semifinal season in 1996.
