Colby, Husson win Maine Event games
WATERVILLE, Maine --
The Colby College men's basketball team exploded for 52 points in the first half on the way to an 83-64 victory over the University of Southern Maine in the opening round of the Maine Event tournament on Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Colby (2-2) and Husson College will meet in the title game Saturday at 7 p.m. Husson took an 85-77 victory over St. Joseph's College in the other contest. Southern Maine (1-3) and St. Joseph's will play in the consolation game at 5 p.m.
Michael Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) had 20 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists to pace Colby. Matt Forlizzi (Danvers, Mass.) added 19 points, while Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished with 17 points and three assists.
Derek Lovely (Oxford, Maine) had 12 points to lead the Huskies (1-3). Jesse McKinnell (Manomet, Mass.) added eight points and eight rebounds.
Colby shot 25-for-32 from the foul line, including 17-for-19 in the first half when the Mules opened up a 52-32 halftime lead.
