University of Maine downs Colby in men's basketball
ORONO, Maine --
Kevin Reed had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the University of Maine to an 80-47 victory over Colby College in a game Tuesday night against teams from different divisions of NCAA.
University of Maine (6-3), an NCAA Division I team, and Division III Colby (3-6) were playing for the first time since the 1976-77 season. Maine now holds a 60-56 edge in the 116-game series.
Eric Dobson added 10 points, seven assists and four steals for the Black Bears. Maine only led 38-21 at halftime, but then shot 63 percent from the field in the second half to decisively pull away.
Michael Westbrooks led Colby with 16 points and six rebounds. Patrick McGowan added 12 points and five assists.
The Mules will host the Colby Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Colby takes on local rival Thomas College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then meets Grinnell (Iowa) College at 7 p.m. Saturday.
