Maine-Farmington Edges Colby in men's basketball
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Trafton Teague (Fairfield, Maine) went 3-for-4 from the foul line in the final 35 seconds of play to lift the University of Maine at Farmington to a 74-71 non-conference men's basketball victory over Colby College on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Colby (3-5) held a 71-69 lead when Andrew Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) nailed two free throws with 1:13 remaining. Maine-Farmington tied the game 13 seconds later when Bob Deetjen (Boothbay, Maine) hit a pair of free throws.
After a turnover by the Mules with 47 seconds left, Teague was fouled and made both free throws for the eventual game-winning points with 35 seconds remaining. Teague then made one of two free throws with nine seconds left for the final points. Colby missed on a 3-point shot at the buzzer.
Teague shot 6-for-7 from the field and had 20 points for UMF (3-2). Travis Magnusson (Thomaston, Maine) had 26 points and seven rebounds and forward Luke Nielsen (Parsonsfield, Maine) had 15 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Deetjen finished with six points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro, Mass.), a D3hoops.com National Team of the Week member for last week's play, had 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Mules. Jenkins had 14 points, while first-year center Drew Cohen (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) had eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Nick Loukes (Glenburn, Maine) added nine points for Colby.
UMF led 16-4 early in the game, but the Mules settled down and came back to take a 40-31 lead at intermission.
