Colby men's basketball downs Tufts 80-65

WATERVILLE, Maine --

First-year center Drew Cohen (Hackley/Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) had 18 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the field, eight rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Colby College men's basketball team to an 80-65 victory over Tufts University on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby (6-16, 2-6 NESCAC) and Tufts (6-15, 1-6) came into the game battling for one of the eight New England Small College Athletic Conference playoff spots. The Mules are in eighth place and now hold a head-to-head tiebreaker edge over the Jumbos.

Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.) added a game-high 20 points and six rebounds for the Mules. Michael Westbrooks (Berkshire School/Dublin, Ireland) had 16 points and six rebounds, while Andrew Jenkins (Gorham/Gorham, Maine) finished with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Colby led 39-29 at halftime, but Tufts cut the lead in the second half to 56-52 with 6:37 left. McGowan, though, scored the next nine points on two 3-point shots, a jumper and a free throw to give the Mules some breathing room at 65-52.

Deyvehn East (Greenfield/Greenfield, Mass.) had 10 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for Tufts. Reggie Stovell (Hotchkiss/Washington, D.C.) added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Jumbos.
