Colby men's lacrosse falls in opener
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
The Colby College men's lacrosse team kept it close for the opening quarter before second-ranked Middlebury College pulled away in a 12-5 season-opening contest Saturday.
Joshua Cleaver had three goals and one assist for Colby (0-1), which trailed just 3-1 after the first quarter. Middlebury led 6-1 at intermission and 10-2 after three quarters.
Charley Howe led the Panthers with four goals and two assists, while Mike Saraceni netted a pair of goals.
First-year midfielder Dan Schupack scored his first collegiate goal and Pete Lagos also tallied for the Mules. Eric Seidel and Sean Murphy added assists, while Matt LaPaglia stopped 16 shots in the nets for Colby.
