Cleaver leads Colby men's lacrosse past Trinity
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Joshua Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) finished off a big week with two goals and four assists to power the Colby College men's lacrosse team to a 7-5 New England Small College Athletic Conference win over Trinity College on Saturday.
Colby improves to 6-2 overall and moves into fourth place in NESCAC with a 3-2 record. Trinity fell to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Cleaver, who had five goals in a win over Bates on Wednesday, had a hand in each goal as Colby opened up a 6-0 lead after three quarters. After a scoreless first period, Cleaver had one unassisted goal and two assists in each of the second and third quarters. Cleaver leads the Mules with 23 goals and nine assists for 32 points.
Mike Haimes (Old Greenwich, Conn.) had two goals for the Mules. Rory Murphy (Brunswick, Maine), Dan Schupack (Cheshire, Conn.) and Pete Lagos (Bow, N.H.) also tallied for the Mules.
Trinity put up five goals in the final 15 minutes to make the game interesting. Wells Winfrey (Washington, D.C.) had one goal and two assists for the Bantams. Chad Burdette (Owings Mills, Md.) added one goal and one assist.
Matt LaPaglia (Upper Montclair, N.J.) had 12 saves for Colby. Geoffrey Shaw (Charlotte, N.C.) made seven stops for Trinity.
