Colby men's lacrosse at 7-2 after pounding USM

Senior Mike Haimes (Old Greenwich, Conn.), sophomore Peter Lagos (Bow, N.H.) and freshman Tim Brown (Concord, Mass.) tallied three goals apiece to lead the Colby College White Mules to a 14-1 triumph over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.

The win was the third straight for Colby, which improved to 7-2. Southern Maine saw its two-game winning streak halted and fell to 4-5. The teams return to action on Saturday, when the Huskies visit Keene State and the White Mules entertain Tufts.

Haimes gave the Mules a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the contest. Colby built a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play and added five more in the second frame to forge an 11-0 edge at the break. Haimes netted all three of his goals in the opening quarter, while junior Matt Roland (Somers, Conn.), freshman Ryan Connolly (Concord, Mass.) and senior Ryan Glennon (Exeter, N.H.) added solo goals.

Colby received two second period goals from Lagos, and one apiece from junior Sean Murphy (Winchester, Mass.), freshman Ryan Scott (Columbia, N.J.) and Brown.

Freshman Rory Murphy (Brunswick, Maine) and Brown netted third quarter goals to give the White Mules took a 13-0 lead. Brown completed his hat trick in the fourth quarter, before junior Matt Butler (Barnstable, Mass.) converted a feed from senior TJ Bell (Farmington, Maine) for the Huskies' lone goal of the contest.

In net for the Mules, sophomore Hugh Murphy (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeff Miller (Marshfield, Mass.) made a single save, while the Southern Maine quartet of sophomore Jeff Lamoureux (Walpole, Mass.), junior Mark Morissette (Wales, Maine), junior Marvin Bonilla (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and sophomore Justin Trainum (Falmouth, Maine) combined to make 14 saves.
