Colby men's lacrosse beats rival Bates, 10-9
LEWISTON, Maine --
Josh Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) had five goals and Mike Haimes (Old Greenwich, Conn.) came back from an injury with a big game in leading the Colby College men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Wednesday.
Colby improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while Bates fell to 2-5 and 1-4 in the conference.
Cleaver now has 21 goals and five assists in Colby's opening seven games. Haimes returned to the lineup after an injury problem sidelined him for four games and contributed three goals and one assist.
The Mules led 5-4 at halftime and 7-5 after three quarters. Colby had a 10-7 lead heading into the final two minutes, but Bates scored two goals to make the game interesting in the final moments of play.
Ryan Glennon (Exeter, N.H.) and Rory Murphy (Brunswick, Maine) both had one goal and one assist for Colby. Eric Seidel (Durham, N.H.) added two assists and Ryan Connolly (Concord, Mass.) earned his first collegiate point with an assist.
Matt LaPaglia (Upper Montclair, N.J.) had 17 saves for Colby, which plays host to Trinity College this Saturday at 1 p.m. The Mules and Bantams are both 2-2 in league play.
