Colby men's soccer at 2-0 after win over Bates
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Junior goalkeeper Brian Davidson (Needham, Mass.) stopped six shots for the shutout and junior captain Ryan Boccuzzi (Storrs, Conn.) scored his fourth goal of the young season in lifting the Colby College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win against Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
After watching the Colby and Bates women's soccer teams battle to a scoreless draw, the men's teams went scoreless in the first half.
Boccuzzi got the eventual game-winning goal about 17 minutes into the second half off a penalty kick. He has four goals and one assist in Colby's 2-0 start to the season.
Chris MacFadyen (Providence, R.I.) scored his third goal of the year with about 21 minutes left off an assist from sophomore Donnie O'Callaghan (New Canaan, Conn.). The Mules added an insurance goal with 13 minutes left when first-year James Pilgrim (Baltimore, Md.) scored off a pass from Brian Kelly (Milford, Mass.).
Colby will get the week off before playing host to Trinity College in another league game next Saturday at 11 a.m.
