Colby coach Serdjenian wins 200th game with win over UNE
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Colby College men's soccer coach Mark Serdjenian won his 200th game as the Mules took care of business quickly in a 6-0 non-conference victory over University of New England on Wednesday.
Serdjenian, a 1973 graduate of Colby, has a 200-153-32 record in his 28th season at Colby.
The Mules (3-0-1) made sure he would get the victory with three goals in the opening 27 minutes of play.
Daniel Kiernan (Roxbury Latin/Brookline, Mass.), Bobby Abendroth (BB&N/Natick, Mass.) and Chris Rogers (Hebron Academy/Atlanta, Ga.) each had two goals for the Mules. Kiernan, a first-year forward, got his first start of the season and finished with two goals and two assists. Abendroth had two goals and one assist.
Abendroth scored at 10:54 of the opening half off an assist from Dan Ruiz (Chatham/Chatham, N.J.) for what turned out to be the only goal Colby would need. Kiernan got his first collegiate goal about six minutes later off a pass from NESCAC leading scorer Ryan Boccuzzi (E.O. Smith/Storrs, Conn.). Rogers, a transfer from Hobart College, got his first goal with the Mules at 26:50 off a feed from Kiernan.
Abendroth scored a little more than three minutes into the second half from a pass by Trevor McWilliams (Millbrook/Millbrook, N.Y.). Rogers made it 5-0 off assists from fellow goal scorers Abendroth and Kiernan about 15 minutes into the second half. Kiernan closed out the scoring on a header off a pass from Donnie O'Callaghan (New Canaan/New Canaan, Conn.).
Colby's defense has allowed just two goals in four games this season.
