Men's soccer loses to Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
Middlebury handed Colby its first loss of the
season en route a 4-1 win as they improved to 6-0 on the season. The
Panthers allowed their first goal of the season in the game, although it was
on a penalty kick, ending the scoreless streak at 462 minutes. This is the
best start to a season for Middlebury since the '98 team opened the season
at 13-0.
Following the converted penalty kick from Ryan Boccuzzi, Pat
Saunders tied the game for Middlebury less than three minutes later, as he
headed in a corner kick from Andrew Stewart. The Panthers took a 2-1 lead
late in the half when John Sales scored with a rocket from 25 yards away. In
the second half, Sales notched his second of the game at 65:25, while Sam
Raymond converted a Stewart pass to make it a 4-1 final.
